#Showbiz: 'Joseon Survival' star Kang Ji Hwan arrested for sexual assault

KUALA LUMPUR: Popular South Korean actor Kang Ji Hwan was arrested by the police yesterday night for sexual assault at his home in Gwangju.

According to Koreaboo, the 42-year-old Seoul-born artiste was reported to have invited two female colleagues from his agency to his home for drinks after a company dinner.

Apparently, when the two had fallen asleep later on at his home, Kang was alleged to have entered the room they were in where he proceeded to sexually assault one of them and also committed an indecent assault on the other.

Before the incident had occurred, one of the women had texted her friend in Seoul. She wrote: “We had some drinks in actor Kang Ji Hwan’s house and now we’re trapped.”

She told her friend to report it and then related the terrible ordeal they went through to the police when they arrived at Kang’s residence where he was promptly taken into custody.

At the police station, Kang said that he did not remember a single thing after having drinks.

He was then secured in a holding cell since he was apparently still intoxicated. He is due for questioning.

The award-winning actor who has been active since 2001 has starred in popular movies and drama series such as My Girlfriend Is An Agent, Rough Cut and Capital Scandal.

Following his arrest, Soompi reported that TV Chosen, which produces the current drama Joseon Survival that stars Kang, could be completely axed.

A source from the broadcasting station apparently said: “This week’s episode of Joseon Survival will not air. Reruns will also not be broadcasted. There were plans for an event related to Joseon Survival next week, but an internal decision was made to cancel the event.”

Talking about the future of the drama, the source said: “We need to have discussions with the production company. Things will be undecided until the production company’s stance is revealed.”
