#Showbiz: Sharifah Sakinah quits driving due to dyslexia

KUALA LUMPUR: Due to her mild dyslexia and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), actress Sharifah Sakinah stayed away from driving for the past four years.

“I’m afraid to drive, especially if it’s a long-distance journey, as people with my condition might get confused with differentiating between left and right.

“That is dangerous especially when you can make the mistake of pressing the wrong pedal for gasoline instead of brake, for instance,” said the 30-year-old celebrity in a news report yesterday.

Sharifah Sakinah said she could attempt to drive but only for a short distance, and in an easy traffic flow, without many lorries on the road too as she had been traumatised after getting involved in a road accident when she was pregnant in early 2016.

Sharifah Sakinah said she was diagnosed with the condition right after she finished secondary school when she realised that she had limited attention span, even when it came to doing house chores.

The actress also reminded people who might have similar condition to seek professional help early on.
