#Showbiz: International award for 'Upin & Ipin: Keris Siamang Tunggal'

KUALA LUMPUR: Mischievous twins Upin and Ipin are now the proud winners of an international film award.

The egg-headed pre-teens' second cinematic adventure Upin & Ipin: Keris Siamang Tunggal has just won Best Feature Film at the Montreal International Animated Film Festival 2019 (Animaze) in Montreal, Canada.

“Thank you! Upin & Ipin: Keris Siamang Tunggal has been chosen as the winner of the Montreal International Animated Film Festival 2019 (Animaze) in the Feature Film category," said a statement from the film's producer Les' Copaque Production Sdn Bhd in its Instagram account yesterday.

A total of 65 countries have entered their animated films in the annual festival this year.

Keris Siamang Tunggal has also scored well in the Internet Movie Database (IMDb), achieving 9.6/10. This means it has overtaken last year's action adventure Paskal which scored 8.8/10.

Keris Siamang Tunggal chalked up RM25 million in ticket sales in just three weeks after opening in cinemas on March 21.

In this fantasy film, Upin, Ipin and their friends find a magical kris which transports them into a fictional country known as Inderaloka. Here they meet various colourful characters from Malay folklore and help them battle an evil wizard.
