#Showbiz: A loud and clear metal force

METAL fans are in for a real treat this Sunday when local supergroups Jemson and Farasu join Japanese metal headliner Loudness on stage in its Rise To Glory Tour 2019.

Jemson, from Kuala Lumpur, comprises Najmi, who used to be part of Alor Star-based band Incarnation and Myo, who is the lead singer of Oh Chentaku.

Najmi formed Jemson as his own Jameson Project immediately after Incarnation called it a day in 2015. He chose to collaborate with Myo in a song titled Rock N’ Roll Sampai Mati, which soon became the theme song for Myo’s popular travel show Ride Hensem. The chemistry between them was so good that both men agreed to transform Jameson Project into supergroup Jemson, a playful “Malayisation” of Jameson.

Jemson recently released an EP titled Balada Cinta Kosmos under Oh Chentaku Records, with five tracks reminiscent of 1980s rock songs.

RISE FROM THE ASHES

Farasu was formed by Nahak, Bull and Fidaiyyin in 2012. The three close friends hail from Serdang, Selangor. The band “rose from the ashes” of Brave In Vision and Iron Storm, and performed for the first time in 2013 at the Eastern Loudness gig. This event was held at The Old House Pub and propelled the band to nationwide fame.

Farasu has since then released numerous albums, including Against The Tyranny and Menongkah Arus, experimenting with different sounds. For instance, it assimilated traditional Malay music that provided a more melodious sound.

Strongly believing in “evolution with the times”, Farasu has performed around Malaysia as well as in Singapore, Indonesia, Taiwan and China. Last year, Farasu released their most successful album Sulalatus Salatin, infused with traditional music from around Southeast Asia.

GODFATHER OF METAL SCENE

Loudness is considered one of the “godfathers” of the Japanese metal scene. The quartet is led by vocalist Minoru Niihara and guitarist Akira Takasaki, and has scored several firsts for a Japanese band. They were Japan’s first commercially successful hard rock act and were first to record songs in English.

Loudness’ concert is at The Bee, Publika, Solaris Dutamas, Jalan Dutamas, Kuala Lumpur at 7pm.

Tickets are at priced RM238 and RM288 (VIP). They can be purchased online at www.galactix.asia/loudnessKL
