KUALA LUMPUR: Members of legendary British rock band Queen were shocked at the reception they received in Seoul, South Korea where they are scheduled to perform a concert on Saturday.
According to Koreaboo, the group addressed the media at a press conference today where vocalist Adam Lambert, guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor talked about the upcoming show set to take place at the Gocheok Sky Dome.
Referring to the 2018 biopic movie of the band, Bohemian Rhapsody, May said: “I had only heard about how great the movie did in Korea but it was shocking to see so many people greet us at the airport. It’s been awhile since we’ve heard screams from the young audience.”
The guitarist, who holds a PHD in astrophysics from Imperial College London, also talked about the wide-reaching influence of K-Pop as well.
“I’ve learned about K-Pop in the UK and we always welcome people who use their own ways to spread a new influence to this generation. I’m sure they are going to continue to do great,” he said.
The quartet, which was originally headed by charismatic frontman and vocalist Freddie Mercury before his untimely death in 1991, had an iconic performance at Wembley Stadium in London back in 1986.
Similarly, BTS made headlines when it performed two sold out concerts at the famous 90,000-capacity venue last year.
Lambert, an American singer-songwriter and American Idol alumni who has been collaborating with Queen since 2011, also talked about K-Pop and its biggest international artiste to date.
“K-Pop’s visuals are amazing. The visuals are more than just something fun to see. It gives us inspiration. I’ve seen so many amazing visuals from BTS,” he said.
The band members were very happy for the success of K-Pop. May said: “It is a different generation than us but even we can feel just how great this movement is.”
Lambert added: “Some say rock is dead, but it’s not. It’s continuously growing and evolving. We’re curious to see how K-Pop will evolve and grow over time.”
BTS fans, or Army as they’re known, were naturally delighted by the compliments with many expressing a similar sentiment to a fan who wrote: “Yes, legend mentioning legend!”
