#Showbiz: Rubiah Suparman's husband dies of cancer

KUALA LUMPUR: The husband of veteran actress Rubiah Suparman, Zahri Mohd Nor, breathed his last breath on Saturday at 5.15am at their home in USJ, Subang Jaya due to lung cancer.

According to news reports, her step daughter Azida Roselay had confirmed that Zahri had been suffering from the disease since last January.

“Our family has accepted the fact that Ayah is no longer with us. Ayah was diagnosed with lung cancer at the end of January.

“However, Ayah didn’t want to go through with any operation since there was a high risk as he was already 80 years old.

“But we as a family were already ready for any eventuality when Ayah became weak as the days went by. A few days before he drew his last breath, Ayah was already in a state of unconsciousness,” she said.

Referring to Rubiah, Azida added: “Thank God, Mak is strong and has accepted the fate of Ayah’s passing. We pray that everything goes well.”

Zahri’s body was put to rest yesterday at the USJ 22 Muslim cemetery.

Rubiah who starred in countless films and dramas from the 1970s, including Potret Maria, Dayang Suhana and Bila Hati telah Retak, now manages her string of Puteri restaurants that has been a popular food outlet for those in the Klang Valley.
