#Showbiz: Women at the top must always look after themselves, says Dr Siti Hasmah

KUALA LUMPUR: Once you have achieved success in life, always look after youself and never forget your roots.

This is Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali's timely advice to women, and Hot FM radio announcers Shuk Sahar, Shuib Muhammad and Fizie Roslan of the programme Geng Pagi Hot were the first to hear it at her residence last week.

The trio interviewed Dr Siti Hasmah, 94, the wife of former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Feb 26 in conjunction with Women's Day 2020.

Their interview with Dr Siti Hasmah was aired on Hot FM at 7am yesterday. It will also be aired at 2pm on Friday.

“Women are much more independent than before and know what they have to do. I'm proud to see women achieve success in various professions.

“However, we should always be careful in what we do. When we are at the top, we must always look after ourselves,” said Dr Siti Hasmah.

Dr Siti Hasmah also shared with the trio about her love life with Dr Mahathir when they were studying medicine in Universiti Malaya, and her experience as the patron of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).

She also told them that she was shocked to hear of her husband's recent resignation as Prime Minister.

During the interview, Shuk, Shuib and Fizie introduced Dr Siti Hasmah to pop queen Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza's new song 7 Nasihat, a duet with hip-hop singers Luca Sickta and Kmy Kmo.

Dr Siti Hasmah also showed off her violin-playing skills. She played a violin, Siti Nurhaliza's gift, and sang Tan Sri P Ramlee's song Engkau Laksana Bulan.

Shuib, the husband of singer Siti Sarah Raissuddin said that their meeting with Dr Siti Hasmah was amazing.

“It's just like meeting my own mother. It's my first meeting with her, but I've always felt that she has been close to us. She is wonderful, always nice and kind, and ready to share lots of interesting stories and give good advice,” he said.

“We also asked her about tips for a happy and successful marriage. And the funniest thing is, she told us that her husband was 'kuat merajuk'.”

Shuk said: “All these years I've only watched Dr Siti Hasmah and Dr Mahathir on television. It's a dream come true to meet and interview her.”

Geng Pagi Hot producer Affendy Jailani said the interview with Dr Siti Hasmah was a follow-up to the trio's interview with Dr Mahathir in October last year.

Netizens can view the full interview on Hot FM's channel HotTV on YouTube.
