#Showbiz: 'The pandemic is truly scary... cooperate with the health and medical staff'

KUALA LUMPUR: Stressing on public apathy towards Covid-19, veteran actress Fauziah Nawi said Malaysians needed to follow all precautionary measures spelt out by the government.

Taking to Instagram yesterday, she shared a lengthy rant of an unnamed young nurse against Malaysians' "tidak apa" attitude towards public health, in the face of an increasing number of Covid-19 patients around the country.

The 66-year-old artiste said: “This is a heartfelt message from a hardworking nurse on the frontline taking care of Covid-19 patients.

“Just want to share it with fellow Malaysians, they need our support.

“The pandemic is truly scary. Please take all precautions Malaysians, and always cooperate with the health and medical staff.”

In her post, the nurse said: “This is the first time I'm working 16 hours a day, taking care of people infected with the Covid-19 virus.

“We all wear special suits for five to six hours and it's extremely hot.

“Sad to say, there are many people who are not taking the pandemic seriously, they're taking advantage of cheap flights to go for overseas holidays with their families.

“Others put their lives and the lives of others at risk by going to religious gatherings, without wearing masks.

“And there are some patients who are selfish, they come too late to hospital with symptoms associated with the virus.

“Please Malaysians, knock yourselves on the head so that your brains work! Take all measures to combat the virus, which has affected the whole world.”

Netizens thanked Fauziah for sharing the nurse's lament. Many of them sympathised with her, and slammed fellow Malaysians for "doing nothing".

"We must respect and support our nurses who are working hard to save lives. Please stop being selfish, Malaysians!" said Shida.

"The hardworking doctors and nurses are our true heroes in the frontline. Malaysians should stop giving them problems. Please act responsibly, Malaysians!" said Olivia.

"May God give our brave nurses strength to face the Covid-19 pandemic. Thank you so much Ibu Fauziah for highligting their fight," said Yati.
