#Showbiz: Top radio DJs can get paid RM100,000 per month, but not RM500,000, says ex-Era FM manager

KUALA LUMPUR: It's logical for top radio announcers to be paid up to RM100,000 per month, but not up to RM500,000, said former Era FM programme manager Rostam Said.

Rostam was quoted as saying this in a news report yesterday, following a debate about radio presenters' salaries.

The debate started when actress Datuk Fauziah Nawi revealed on her social media account the huge difference between salaries paid to radio announcers at private stations and those owned by the government.

"If announcers can attract listeners, and therefore advertisers, to their show, they deserve a good pay."

Veteran radio announcer Halim Othman said there were many factors that contributed to announcers' salary, including their popularity and the radio's primetime slot, which is the daily morning show.

"These announcers are like 'morning boosters' to those listening while driving to work.

"People need a cheer to jumpstart their day, and kudos to radio announcers who can help us start our day on a positive note. So they deserve to be paid handsomely."
