#Showbiz: Anggun wins Russian 'Duet of the Year' award

KUALA LUMPUR: Indonesian singer Anggun C. Sasmi, 46, won the Duet of the Year award for the song Caruso, which featured the late Italian operatic tenor Luciano Pavarotti, at the Bravo International Music Awards in Russia on Saturday.

The Snow On The Sahara hitmaker took to Instagram to express her gratitude for the award at the grand event that took place at the iconic Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow.

In a post featuring pictures of her with the trophy, she wrote: "Got an award at BraVo Music Awards Classical for Duet of the Year and got to sing virtually with Maestro Pavarotti at the Bolshoi Theatre. I'm beyond grateful."

One of the accompanying pictures also featured the talented artiste in an elegant gown performing on stage virtually with Pavarotti's image in the background.

According to previous news reports, Pavarotti had died in 2007 and the duet between the two artistes was delivered in a virtual manner in 2019.

Apparently, the idea for the collaboration came about after a meeting with Pavarotti's wife which resulted in the virtual duet on Asia's Got Talent on April 11, 2019.

During the live performance, Anggun, who was also a judge on the reality TV competition, was seen singing in special segments to an original Pavarotti recording.

Her singles have fared well on many Russian music charts making her one of the most successful Asian artistes in there.

"I've had concerts in Moscow before the Covid-19 pandemic hit. I promised myself to return there as soon as possible," she said in a news report.

She added: "A lot of good things have come to me in 2021. I can't wait to share the news with all of my fans."
