#Showbiz: 'Over-exposure on social media only invites judgemental people' - Awal & Scha

KUALA LUMPUR: Being active on social media may win an artiste lots of fans, but it also exposes him or her to scrutiny by fault-finding individuals.

Celebrity couple Awal Ashaari and Scha Alyahya believe that it is best for artistes to avoid "over-exposure" on social media, especially in the wake of strict Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) introduced by the government to curb the spread of Covid-19.

"It's good to share your activities on social media, but unwise to reveal too much. There will always be judgemental people who scrutinise your every move, and are quick to point fingers at you for flouting the SOP," said Awal at the launch of his and Scha's latest food product, Schambal sambal at Glo Damansara, Petaling Jaya yesterday.

Scha said: "To be safe, it's best to not reveal where you are in a social media photo. Keep the time of the event secret, too. On our part, we share only what is important in our lives, such as our work, birthdays, anniversaries and festivities."

Awal said that there were many who perceived Malaysian artistes as a "privileged lot" and labelled them as "kayangan".

"They think that we get away with flouting SOP, but that's just not true. We are not above the law, and get fined if we break the rules like everybody else," he said.

"Therefore, it is always good for an artiste to be more 'private' on social media. Over-exposure of oneself can land us in big trouble if we are not careful."

"It is always best to think before you post," said Scha.

Melodi host Awal, 40, and former Muzik-Muzik host Scha, 38, have been married since 2012 and have two daughters, seven-year-old Lara Alaina and two-month-old Lyla Amina.
