#Showbiz: Cinemas shuttered in MCO areas

KUALA LUMPUR: Following the enforcement of the MCO, cinemas within the designated areas that are affected will be closed for the duration of the implementation.

For the six districts affected in Selangor, cinema closures will remain until May 17. In Kuala Lumpur, as well as various areas in Johor, Perak and Terengganu, the cinemas will be shuttered until May 20.

The management of TGV Cinemas announced yesterday that operations of its branches in non-MCO areas would continue as usual.

However, the premises in operation will adhere to the strict SOP set by the National Security Council (MKN).

Since resuming operations prior to the latest announcement of the MCO, the cinema sector has seen an encouraging return of moviegoers.

Patrons did not seem to mind the new normal and adherence to various SOP to ensure everyone's safety.

Some of the films that were screened in cinemas include Godzilla Vs Kong, Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet, Those Who Wish Me Dead, The Unholy, Seobok and many more.

This month will see films such as The Croods: A New Age, Great White, Nobody, White Snake, Seance and Dendam Kesuma being screened during the MCO period.

The government has enforced the MCO on KL beginning today due to a spike in Covid-19 cases.

Senior Minister (Security cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob recently announced that the MCO would be in effect until May 20.

In Johor, the affected areas are Johor Baru, Kulai and Kota Tinggi. In Perak, the MCO is enforced at Taiping, Larut Matang and Selama.

The MCO is in place in 14 sub-districts except Hulu Besut in Besut, Terengganu.

These sub-districts include Kampung Raja, Lubuk Kawah, Pelagat, Tenang, Keluang, Bukit Kenak, Kubang Bemban, Jabi, and Kerandang.

Also under the MCO are Pengkalan Nangka, Pasir Akar, Tembila, Bukit Puteri and Kuala Besut.
