#Showbiz: 'Daulat' not based on 'Sheraton Move', says filmmaker

KUALA LUMPUR: Executive producer, director and scriptwriter Imran Sheik has denied that Daulat's failure to get approval for cinema screening two years ago was because the story was parallel to the local political scene at the time.

In a news report today, he dismissed the allegation that the political thriller produced with a RM500,000 budget was based on the "Sheraton Move" which occurred in February last year.

"It's just impossible as the filming took place in July in 2019," he explained about the first film put out by his company Lacuna Pictures.

"Of course I'm upset that my first film wasn't approved by the Film Censorship Board of Malaysia (LPF) for screening at cinemas," he said of Daulat which later was made available on iflix in April last year.

Daulat stars Vanidah Imran, Rashidi Ishak, Tony Eusoff, Jasmine Suraya Chin, Cristina Suzanne and Zul Zamir.

Imran also added that he was disappointed that Daulat's leading actress Vanidah did not make the nomination list for the upcoming 31st Malaysian Film Festival (FFM31) due to the issue.

"She gave her best to this production, but unfortunately, her chance of winning an award for this role is nil because of this."
