#Showbiz: Yusof Haslam laments fate of 'Abang Long Fadil 3' and 'Polis EVO 3'

KUALA LUMPUR: Film producer Datuk Yusof Haslam is unsure of the fate of his company Skop Productions' two films — Abang Long Fadil 3 and Polis EVO 3.

The two action-packed films made with a total budget of RM11 million were originally set to open in cinemas in August last year, but their releases were put on hold due to the pandemic.

"As of now, I'm not sure when the two films will be screened," he told reporters when met at the 31st Malaysian Film Festival (FFM31) press conference at The Royale Chulan The Curve in Mutiara Damansara yesterday.

Yusof said that initially he thought the pandemic would only last a year, before things could go back to normal.

"It's been close to two years now. So, I really can't say for sure if they get to be released next year even," he lamented.

"We resisted releasing the films via OTT platforms earlier since the films were made for the big screen.

"Releasing a film at the cinemas now is so risky that you might as well just have it available on OTT.

In fact, Yusof said that he was prepared to do so, had it not been for his partners' advice who told him to wait a little longer.

"We will wait another year to decide on this matter. In the mean time, we will monitor the pandemic situation and see if cinemas will be able to return to their pre-Covid-19 glory days," he said.
