#Showbiz: Join TAS Academy's speech and drama programme for kids at KLPAC

KUALA LUMPUR: The Actors Studio (TAS) Academy's popular Speech and Drama programme will be resuming physical classes at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC) on Jan 8 and 9 together with an online-only option.

The programmes are not just about acting and performing but instilling creativity and encouraging self-expression.

The semester-based programme will introduce students to the magic of storytelling by exploring the evocative language and performance of poetry, dialogue and scenes, monologues and solos, song and music. Students will get to try their hand at creating sketches and also appreciating the classics.

With the safety of students a priority, classes are kept small with a maximum of 15 students to ensure physical distancing be maintained throughout in line with KLPAC's strict SOP.

The Academy has Preschool Speech & Drama for 3 to 6 year olds and Speech & Drama for 7 to 18 year olds.

It is a weekly programme spanning 10 weeks per semester with three semesters a year and students can choose to take either the Saturday or Sunday classes.

The fee is RM300 per semester (10 classes) for Preschool Speech & Drama and RM450-RM500 per semester for Speech & Drama, with a one-time RM50 registration fee for new students.

The programme also offers an alternative "Online Only" option for students who prefer only virtual classes via Zoom.

The Academy hopes to create a fantastic learning space for the young to grow, which is all about having fun, bringing out their creative and crazy side, as well as braving new frontiers and ideas while accepting one another, under the guidance of a solid faculty of teachers.

The new semester will also introduce the Academy's head and administrator, Yusintha Zemira, who also goes by the artistic name Cherry Coco.

"There has been a lot of planning and preparation in order to get ready for our academic year. The Academy is committed to provide a nurturing environment for our students.

"We hope our Speech & Drama Programme will be wholesome and quite spectacular for our young minds. We are prepared to start off the year strong and courageous.

"While no one can predict what the future holds, let us flourish together through the arts," said Yusintha in a statement.

Yusintha is an English Literature graduate, teacher and an oral poetic performer, who recently appeared in Datuk Dr Faridah Merican's Life Sdn Bhd: Difference.

She represented Malaysia and won the CEX Slam Poetry competition against Singapore and was a speaker in TEDx-UPM.

Yusintha also participated in Urbanscapes and was one of the judges for Sayembara Cerpen Impian Team Selangor, an initiative by the Selangor state government.

The 2022 faculty includes facilitators Phraveen Arikiah, Adam Hamizan, Nabil Musawir and Thevyapaalan S Jayaratnam, as well as educators Rebecca Bajok and Vicky Ang.
