#Showbiz: Shahir lost RM12mil to fraudulent glove deal

KUALA LUMPUR: Singer and winner of reality singing competition Hijrahkan Laguku, Shahir Zawawi has previously fallen victim to a fraudulent business deal that saw losses of RM12 million.

He claimed that the unfortunate incident involving a company supplying surgical gloves happened on October 2020.

"During the height of the pandemic, my business partner and I were providing supplies to hospitals. We had ordered gloves but they were never delivered.

"What we received at the port were only 400,000 empty boxes. The estimated loss was about RM12 million," he said in a news report yesterday.

Shahir, who is also the previous champion of Season 8 of Akademi Fantasia, said that they had already made a police report on the matter.

"We have identified the scammer involved and legal action has already been taken against them.

"Before this, we had a similar business but nothing bad happened. Maybe it was because it involved smaller amounts of orders.

"When the quantity increased and since surgical gloves are a necessary item during the Covid-19 pandemic season, certain parties took advantage of the situation.

"When this happened, I really felt like giving up at times," he said.

Shahir who hails from Kampar, Perak was named the champion of TV AlHijrah's inaugural Hijrahkan Laguku reality singing competition on Saturday, which saw him taking home a cash prize of RM100,000.
