#Showbiz: 6 Famili Duos gear up for semi-finals tonight

KUALA LUMPUR: After six weeks of heated competition, the six teams of TV3 reality show Famili Duo 2023 are set to battle it out in the "knockout" semi-finals tonight.

Siblings Sharif and Syaiful Doli of Zero, Adira and Emma Suhaimi, Shila and Syahir Amzah and Ryan and Adam Bakery, husband-and-wife singers Fuad and Tom, and cousins Haqiem Rusli and Ariff Bahran will be presenting their very own sketches involving hip-hop and dance at the semi-finals which will be broadcast live from Sri Pentas 2, Plaza Alam Sentral, Shah Alam at 9pm tonight.

In a statement yesterday, Sharif said: "Even though Syaiful and I have been frequent weekly winners, we cannot take things easy. The competition is getting tough and we have to think of new ideas on our feet. Hip-hop and dance may not be our forte, but we will do our best to entertain guests."

Syaiful said: "The key to a good performance is giving fans weekly surprises, and there will definitely be one during our coming concert. We have been training daily to prepare ourselves, and it is good that this is not stressing us out because we love what we are doing."

Ariff said: "Haqiem and I aim to give fans different performances each week by sharing ideas that are out of the box. We have daily brainstorming sessions that mostly take place outside the studio."

"Hip-hop is not something we are good at, but we are willing to take the challenge. The key to winning is to impress the judges by going all out," said Haqiem.

Emma said: "We always take note of the advice which the judges give us every week, to come up with better performances. The competition can be stressful, but to beat such stress we discuss ideas with our strongest supporters, that is our family members. We also learn to relax by spending quality time with Adira's children."

For Ryan, he was glad that Famili Duo had enabled the public to see the creative side of them, and realised that they were entertainers and not just social media influencers.

Fuad said that he and Tom initially struggled because they were not used to performing musical genres other than rock.

"Thank God we pushed ourselves hard enough to get a perfect 10 score last week. We are slowly getting to master other genres, to the best of our abilities. As for hip-hop, it is the biggest challenge, but we are mentally prepared to take on it," he said.

"We have shared ideas with our fellow contestants and also the production team. They have been very helpful and we always take note of their suggestions," said Tom.

Shila said that she was happy that Syahir had developed greater self-confidence over the last six weeks and they now knew each other's biggest strengths and weaknesses.

"Our aim is to keep going and keep doing our best. We thrive on challenges, and if we do not do well this week, we pull ourselves up the following week."
