#Showbiz: 'The Lord Of The Rings: The War Of The Rohirrim' animated film set for 2024 release

KUALA LUMPUR: An original The Lord Of The Rings: The War Of The Rohirrim animated film has been greenlit for a release on April 12, 2024.

According to Geek Culture, the film from New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Animation which was first announced last June, would focus on the story behind the fortress of Helm's Deep.

It is expected to take place hundreds of years before filmmaker Peter Jackson's second instalment of his epic Lord Of The Rings trilogy, The Two Towers, which featured a massive and lengthy battle sequence at the fortress.

The new story will also explore the blood-soaked era of the mighty king of Rohan, Helm Hammerhand.

Director Kenji Kamiyama who previously worked on Blade Runner: Black Lotus and Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex has been chosen to helm the fantasy adventure project.

Joseph Chou of Blade Runner: Black Lotus fame will produce.

The script will be written by Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou, based on a story from Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews, who had previously created The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance for Netflix.

A cast of voice talents for The Lord Of The Rings: The War Of The Rohirrim is expected to be announced soon.

The new animated film is not connected in any way to the upcoming live action TV series, The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power, by Amazon Prime Video which is set to premiere on Sept 2.
