#Showbiz: Korean Film Festival returns at GSC with free screenings beginning Friday

KUALA LUMPUR: Fans of K-movies will get to watch box office hits for free during the 2022 Korean Film Festival at GSC Mid Valley Megamall here from Nov 25 to 27.

Festival organiser the Embassy of the Republic of Korea has selected six films from various genres, including comedy, action and historical drama, which reflects and showcases different aspects of Korean history, society and modern culture.

Little Forest stars Kim Tae Ri (of Twenty Five-Twenty One and Mr Sunshine fame) and follows the story of a young woman who gets tired of her complex life in the big city and moves back to her hometown in the countryside.

There, she heals her emotional wounds with the help of nature, food and her long-time friends.

A Taxi Driver is the 17th film in South Korea's box office history to garner over 10 million cinemagoers, which is a significant figure given South Korea's population of 50 million.

It stars Song Kang Ho as a taxi driver who unintentionally witnesses and gets involved in the brutality of the 1980 Gwangju Democratic Uprising, while transporting a foreign journalist to Gwangju for a large sum of money.

The historical action film won numerous awards, including Best Foreign Film in the 2018 Grownups Award and Best Film in the Korean Association of Film Critics Award in 2018.

Fengshui is a period drama about a fengshui expert who can predict which land will bring good fortune and the people around him who compete to occupy the great lands in order to change their fate and become king.

Emmy Award-winning Squid Game star Lee Jung Jae and Jun Ji Hyun are the leads in Assassination which is set in the 1930s Seoul and Shanghai during the Japanese occupation of Korea.

The action spy drama focuses on a group of Korean resistance fighters' plan to assassinate a highly ranked Japanese officer.

I Can Speak is a comedy drama that depicts the life of a wartime sex slave during the Japanese colonial period in Korean history during WWII.

Na Moon Hee won numerous best actress awards for her portrayal as the lead character in the film.

My Paparotti is a film inspired by a true story about a special friendship between a high school gangster and a music teacher who encourages him to pursue his dream of becoming a singer like the late tenor, Luciano Pavarotti.

Tickets can also be redeemed at the GSC Mid Valley ticketing kiosk.
