#Showbiz: Michelle Yeoh wins best comedy actress Golden Globe

KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh on Tuesday won the Golden Globe for best actress in a musical or comedy film for "Everything Everywhere All At Once," a hit sci-fi flick about surreal parallel universes.

She bested Lesley Manville ("Mrs Harris Goes to Paris"), Margot Robbie ("Babylon"), Anya Taylor-Joy ("The Menu") and Emma Thompson ("Good Luck to You, Leo Grande").

Last Sunday, Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh became become the first Asian actress to win the National Board of Review Awards, held in New York City.

Reuters reported yesterday that she received recognition as best actress for her role in the A24 science-fiction blockbuster Everything Everywhere All At Once.

"Thank you. I feel like I've entered my own metaverse," said Yeoh during her speech at the awards.

Yeoh said that she was proud to be the first Asian actress in 45 years of the National Board of Review Awards to receive such an honour.

"I hope it means that Hollywood and the filmmaking community recognise what a watershed film this is and all the things I've stood for and tried to accomplish in my four-decade career."

The star-studded event was attended by Best Actor winner Colin Farrell, Best Supporting Actress winner Janelle Monae and Best Director Steven Spielberg.

In the film, Yeoh plays an immigrant mother involved in an epic adventure.

She must connect different versions of herself in the parallel universe to stop someone who intends to harm the multiverse.

The National Board of Review Awards celebrates the art of cinema in various categories, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress.

This year, 269 films were viewed by a select group of film enthusiasts, filmmakers, professionals, academics and students for the awards.
