KUALA LUMPUR: It was a night of musical evolution and symphonic brilliance at Plenary Hall, KL Convention Centre as Indonesian singer-songwriter Afgan treated concertgoers to an elegant evening of musical entertainment.

Titled "Afgan Evolution Live in Kuala Lumpur", the concert saw 3,000 concertgoers, all of whom were elegantly attired in long gowns and suits.

Afgan's 120-minute performance was accompanied by the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) team's 25-piece string ensemble and melodies.

The concert, which started at 9pm sharp, opened with Afgan singing the song "Jalan Terus", a track from his 2016 album, "Sides".  Goosebumps spread through the crowd as the melodies resonated in the hall, leaving the audience in awe of his epic grand stage entrance.

In total, Afgan performed 25 songs that include his all time hits such as "Jodoh Pasti Bertemu", "Panah Asmara", "Bawalah Pergi Cintaku" and "Knock Me Out".

The soft-spoken singer, who has won over 50 awards including Best Album and Best Male Artiste at the Anugerah Planet Muzik, was joined on stage by Indonesian songbird Raisa midway through the show for their hit duet "Percayalah" to the delight of the audience.

The emotional high point came during Afgan's rendition of "Jodoh Pasti Bertemu," with the entire hall illuminated by phone flashlights.

"In Malaysia, they say my songs are used for healing. If I listen to sad songs, I get even sadder, but you guys find healing in them? Really?

"If that's the case, let's 'healing' together then," he said addressing the audience at the concert.

Afgan's playful banter further endeared him to the audience, creating a lively and engaging atmosphere throughout the night.

When the concert ended sometime before midnight, the audience screamed for more. This despite Afgan performing the upbeat number "Panah Asmara".

Afgan returned to the stage to perform "Kau Dengannya Ku Dengan Dia" and "Bawalah Pergi Cintaku" for an encore.

Meanwhile, many in the audience compared the concert to his previous one, "Afgan Evolution Live in Kuala Lumpur", saying it goes beyond his trademark balladry and is something people want to witness.

The audiences praised the truthfulness and sincerity of Afgan's new musical arrangements, as well as the MPO team's outstanding performance.
