#Showbiz: Veteran singer Isma Aliff suffers stroke, in critical condition

KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran singer and actor Isma Aliff, 59, is in critical condition following a stroke and has been placed under an induced coma by doctors in a private hospital here.

The star of 1986 romantic comedy Marah-Marah Sayang whose real name is Muhammad Latiff Ismail is also suffering from a severe lung and heart infection and has been hospitalised since Dec 15.

Isma's sister Shamsidah Ismail, 57, said in an interview with Harian Metro Online yesterday that he was hospitalised after collapsing at home.

"He collapsed after having a severe headache and his arms and legs also became stiff. I quickly took him to hospital," said Shamsidah adding that Isma had not suffered from any serious illness prior to this.

"He could still speak a little when I visited him last Sunday, and last night his oxygen level decreased, and doctors placed him under an induced coma."

Shamsidah added that doctors told her that Isma's chances of recovery were slim, and they were doing their best to ensure that his vital organs were not infected.

Isma, who released four studio albums in his four-decade entertainment career, also starred in the comedy film Kembar Siam with the late comedian Yusof Hamid or Mr Os and was a judge in comedy talent search Raja Lawak 7.

The Anugerah Bintang Popular Berita Harian 1988 Popular Supporting Actor also teamed up with Mr Os as the comedy duo Osama in Maharaja Lawak Mega 2013.
