KUALA LUMPUR: Versatile singer and composer Naqiu or Wan Naqiuddin Wan Mohd Najib, 37, will be the main Malaysian guest star at veteran Indonesian diva Hetty Koes Endang's Feb 24 concert at Grand Shah Alam in the Shah Alam Convention Centre (SACC).
Hetty's three-hour concert After Hours with Hetty Koes Endang or AHHKE which begins at 8pm also features her singer daughter Afifah Yusuf, former The Girls member Intan Maya and Zulkefli Majid of pop group 2By2.
Concert organiser Visual Print Sdn Bhd's executive director Anis Fathiah Abd Hamid, said in an interview at The Gardens Mall, Mid Valley City here today that some 1,000 people were expected to attend the concert.
"Naqiu was personally chosen by Bunda (Hetty) who was greatly impressed with his versatility while judging the latest season of Astro's reality show Gegar Vaganza, All Stars Gegar Vaganza where he finished fifth," said Anis.
Naqiu was also the champion of Gegar Vaganza 6 in 2019.
Anis also said that Naqiu was a crowd favourite in Gegar Vaganza, who had progressively upgraded himself from a teen idol during the 1990s when he was the lead singer of the group Boboy, to a respectable adult contemporary artiste.
"Naqiu's got lots and lots of fans, who see him as a complete package, not only with a great voice but also great showmanship and 'hunkiness' too," she said.
Naqiu said he was delighted to share the stage with his idol Hetty, and was always grateful to her constructive criticisms of his weekly performances in Gegar Vaganza 6 and All Stars Gegar Vaganza.
"Bunda Hetty has helped me a lot in improving myself as an all-round entertainer. When I learnt from Visual Print that she had chosen me as her co-star for the evening, I was on top of the world," said Naqiu, who will serenade fans with five songs.
Hetty, 66, will perform eight of her greatest hits while the other three singers will perform one song each.
