#Showbiz: Awie advises budding singers, musicians to work with 'otais' to excel

KUALA LUMPUR: Speaking like a true rock 'sifu', Wings lead singer Datuk Ahmad Azhar Othman or Awie has advised budding singers and musicians to collaborate with seasoned artistes or 'otais' to thrive in their careers.

He suggested that "freshies" serve as sessionists at veterans' concerts or, better still, learn to be concert organisers.

"Two of my children are into event organising and creative design for concerts. They are learning fast, and I am impressed with them," said Awie at the launch of Wings' coming concert, The Rock Emperor - Penang Chapter, at Starhill Gallery in Jalan Bukit Bintang today.

His bandmates Eddie, Black, Syam and Edrie Hashim also attended the launch.

"If the new artistes help in event organisation they learn the ins and outs of how concerts are made, and consequently they will organise more successful concerts for themselves as they progress in their careers," said Awie.

"More experience means greater skills and indirectly greater showmanship."

The Rock Emperor - Penang Chapter will take place at 9pm at the SPICE Arena, Bayan Lepas, in Penang on Feb 24.

It is the third Rock Emperor concert, after the Singapore Chapter at The Star Theatre in Singapore last July 29 and the Kuala Lumpur Chapter at Stadium Malawati in Shah Alam last Dec 16, which attracted 10,000 fans.

Rumah Produksi Merah and Awie Entertainment organised the concert series, featuring a special segment where Awie sang cover versions of famous rock songs.

Tickets to the concert are priced from RM95 to RM315 and can be purchased at https://wings.ubertickets.asia.
