#Showbiz: Do not normalise making defamatory remarks, says comedian Shuib after winning suit against social media user [WATCH]

SHAH ALAM: Comedian Shahmira Muhamad, better known as Shuib, has won a defamation suit against a social media user known as John Dihani who had linked the former to fraternal organisation, the Freemasons.

Through an Instagram post, Shuib said he was grateful that the case had concluded five months after he initiated the suit and had for the first time met John at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Court Complex here today.

Shuib wrote: "Alhamdulliah, today Jan 10,2024, the defamation case against me and the @sitisarahraissuddin (his late wife) has concluded.

"It has been five months and today, everything has been answered. Your defamatory remarks, John Dihani, were absolutely baseless and do not make sense.

"But based on good will and professionalism, I forgive you."

Shuib also said that he was awarded costs but would not explain how much. He pledged to channel the sum to the Palestine Fund under Yayasan Nurjiwa.

He also prayed that all would be eased for John and the episode would serve as a lesson to everyone to be careful when using social media.

"Do not simply defame without doing due diligence. Do not normalise this. This is not the culture of Malaysians," he said.

In a video on the same post, John, who was seen standing side by side with Shuib in front of the complex, also read out a statement of apology for making the defamatory statements.

He read that he had made defamatory remarks via his Instagram account against Shuib and that it was done without proof and basis.

He said his actions had disregarded the implications on Shuib and could have disrupted peace in the country. He also apologised to Shuib.

Shuib told John that he hoped the incident would not recur. Both of them were seen shaking hands at the end of the video.

In June last year, Shuib said he would take legal action against those who had linked the death of his wife, Sarah, to the Freemasons.

Sarah, who was a singer, had died of Covid-19 complications while being pregnant in August 2021. The defamatory remarks claimed Shuib was a member of the Freemasons.

It claimed Sarah had to be intubated due to Covid-19 infection as Shuib wanted to prove to pregnant mothers that they were at a high risk of dying if they did not get vaccinated. It alleged that it had gone viral that was why droves of pregnant mothers had gone to get vaccinated.

It alleged that the Freemasons used artists associated with them to promote vaccination and if one breaches the order, a family member needed to be sacrificed.

John had reportedly apologise to Shuib through a social media post.

However, Shuib was adamant on taking legal action as John had refused to meet him face to face.
