#Showbiz: Nabila Huda cooks up a storm in New York

ACTRESS and host Nabila Huda can be seen traipsing around the Big Apple in the United States in the cooking show 'Masak Sana Sini New York' which currently airs on RTM.

The 39-year-old artiste has returned to host the second season of the culinary programme which sees her donning kebaya outfits.

"I brought 30 pairs of kebaya nyonya with me. I wanted to promote and elevate Malay culture and tradition in the eyes of the world.

"My fascination with the dress style began with my involvement in the biographical telefilm, 'Saloma'," she said.

"I told the team why not I wear the baju kebaya throughout the 26 episodes?

"After all, the programme will air during Ramadan. Why not bring our culture and tradition to the US?"

The daughter of rock singer Datuk Amy of Search said she also brought accessories and shoes to match the traditional dresses.

"I found this local boutique and contacted them. After explaining my intention, the boutique agreed to lend me 30 pairs of kebaya nyonya.

"I was able to bring the kebaya to New York. Over there, I'm like a small ambassador of Malaysia.

"Foreigners always smile when they see me dressed in kebaya and many compliment my clothes," she said.

Nabila said the programme would feature her walking around New York to show what life is like there.

"I also cook and treat guests to 'buka puasa' sessions. Many guests on the programme are Malaysians who work and study in New York," she said.

Viewers get to see the beauty of Washington Square Park, skyscrapers in Time Square, the High Line, the Vessel building, historic buildings like Grand Central Terminal, Central Park, the Metropolitan Museum, the iconic Brooklyn Bridge, the uniqueness of the Oculus, Chinatown, the American Museum of Natural History, Coney Island, Little Island, the neighbourhood of Soho, the New York Transit Museum, Roosevelt Island, the architecture of the Flatiron Building, as well as Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo and the Bridge.

Nabila will also be showcasing her journeys through Prospect Park, Joker Stairs, Unisphere, the Charging Bull (Wall Street), the iconic Empire State Building, a sweet experience riding the New York City hop-on hop-off bus and the Statue of Liberty.

A special episode will feature Nabila celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri in New York City with a diverse group of Malaysians living there.

Nabila will prepare a special holiday dish to enjoy with the guests.

She also shares 'buka puasa' recipes with invited guests, including Noor Azreen Kamalzman, who works at the Malaysian Immigration Consul in New York, Malaysian immigration officer Nalini Sinniah, animation producer Khairul Azman, Columbia University student Alif Idlan, product designer Wafi Abdul, corporate officer Tasneem Abd Halim, commercial strategist Sarah Zaid, lecturer Shazlyn Millieana, senior director of performance marketing Aliaa Zulkifli and Saiful Amri, who works in economics.

Viewers will also get to see the food prepared by Malaysians in New York — US Military Academy student Edlan Mikyad, legal assistant Sharon Lam, marketing officer Anis Azlan, dance teacher Alisya Razman, businessman Wan Khalil Wan Ahmad, investment promoter Izham Iskandar, software engineer Nuryani Iman, Malaysian government officer at the United Nations Amaliza Bahari, Rutgers University Newark student Natasha Hazirah and St John University student Shammil Haiqal.
