#Showbiz: Michael Jackson's nephew Jaafar embodies him in biopic photo

KUALA LUMPUR: Jaafar Jackson is the spitting image of his uncle Michael in a photo from the upcoming biopic Michael which was shared by its producers recently.

People magazine reported recently that 27-year-old Jaafar rocked a famous look of Michael's from the 1990s — a white jacket over a white V-neck shirt and black trousers, with his hair tied back into a ponytail.

"With Jaafar, every look, every note, every dance move is Michael," producer Graham King said in a statement.

"He embodies Michael in a way that no other actor could."

Director Antoine Fuqua said: "We have assembled an incredible team of artists for this project — hair and makeup, costumes, cinematography, choreography, lighting — and some who knew and worked with Michael are reuniting for this film.

"Jaafar embodies Michael. It goes beyond the physical resemblance. It is Michael's spirit that comes through in a magical way."

The image was captured by photographer Kevin Mazur who said: "When I walked onto the set, I felt like I had gone back in time and I was walking into the stadium to shoot the tour.

"The way he looks and acts, his mannerisms — he's Michael Jackson."

In January 2023, it was announced that Lionsgate was working on a film about Michael with a screenplay from John Logan.

Jaafar is the son of Michael's elder brother Jermaine Jackson.

He will be joined by a handful of big stars for the upcoming film, which includes Colman Domingo, Nia Long and Miles Teller.

Michael will be released in the United States on April 18, 2025.
