Graffiti maestro Katun shares tips with 10 enthusiasts at half-day workshop

KUALA LUMPUR: Ten graffiti enthusiasts recently were given a chance to attend a half-day learning workshop, thanks to Malaysia’s leading total coating solutions provider, Nippon Paint Malaysia Group.

Held in partnership with renowned graffiti artist – Katun, the workshop was established as an experiential platform for graffiti enthusiasts to learn on ways to create impactful and personal graffiti designs with the usage of Nippon Paint’s Pylox, a new spray paint range.

Throughout the workshop, the participants, who were the selected lucky winners of Nippon Paint’s Instagram contest (@pyloxofficial) held recently, were given the opportunity to be coached personally by Katun.

“I must say that I am definitely impressed with the techniques and skills shown by the participants.

“It is evident that their admiration and love for graffiti art has birthed a genuine passion within them to seek for learning opportunities online and even at workshops to sharpen their skills.

“All that is required for them to advance to the next level is enough practice to refine their skills and in the process, discover their personality and embed it in their art style.

“I honestly believe that learning platforms such as this workshop is a good starting point for graffiti artists to learn and improve,” said Katun, who got his name from his love of reinterpreting cartoon characters into artistic impressions.

Katun, throughout his graffiti journey, has expanded his artwork into the international arena such as Dubai, Korea, Tahiti, Australia, Indonesia and Singapore.

Meanwhile, Nippon Paint group general manager Gladys Goh said the company through partnership with Katun, aimed to showcase the talent and dreams of local artists and promote the culture of graffiti art in Malaysia.

“The graffiti landscape in the country has been a growing trend over the years. It has grown from being an avenue for art lovers to express their creative emotions into an artistic beauty widely accepted by the community through its elaborative art form on walls.

“We at Nippon Paint are definitely supporters of the artistic community in expressing creative imagination and achieving dreams. If you can dream it, you can Pylox it,” said.
