PAC deputy chairman slams Pua

KUALA LUMPUR : PUBLIC Accounts Committee (PAC) deputy chairman Dr Tan Seng Giaw has taken to task his PAC and DAP colleague, Tony Pua, over the latter’s allegations concerning 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

Taking a swipe at Pua, Tan said allegations and issues brought up by Pua, especially those surrounding 1MDB, should always be supported by proof.

“If you do not have any evidence to back (it) up, then, do not raise the issue.

“If there is an allegation, the person needs to prove it,” he told the New Straits Times yesterday.

He said the committee was all about seeking the truth based on evidence.

“PAC is all about establishing the truth.

“If anybody comes up with a statement, show me the evidence. Then, we will investigate it.”

Pua had, in the past, accused 1MDB of not being upfront in its dealings over allegedly missing funds, and of misappropriation and embezzlement.

On claims of a leak of confidential PAC parliamentary documents to foreign media publications, Tan said Pua could face legal action if he had committed any wrongdoing.

“If he (Pua) has done anything illegal, he can be taken to court.”

Tan had, on Tuesday, demanded that evidence be produced before any accusations are made against PAC members for leaking information pertaining to 1MDB.

1MDB, in a statement yesterday, urged Tan to prescribe the same advice to Pua.

“Pua’s claim to fame is recycling unproven allegations against 1MDB.

“But when answers are given and facts shared, he was proven wrong.

“However, he (Pua) would ignore the facts, change the topic, and wait quietly for the next sensationalist and unproven allegation.”

1MDB also called for Tan to demand a full and transparent enquiry on how confidential PAC documents on 1MDB had landed in the hands of a foreign media publication.
