MCM raises RM300,000 for charity

JOHOR BARU: Marlborough College Malaysia (MCM) has raised more than RM300,000 in aid of several charity organisations here as part of its community out-reach initiative started in 2012.

MCM, Malaysia’s first independent co-educational British boarding and day school, had raised the funds through various educational, sporting, social and charitable programmes.

The recipients included SK Sungai Melayu, the Care Haven Orphanage, Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS), the Handicapped and Mentally Disabled Children’s Association and the Children’s Surgical Centre of the Sultanah Aminah General Hospital.

“Our mission, besides promoting academic achievement, is to encourage children to explore compassion and companionship to build confidence and communities for good.

This is our way of developing well-rounded balanced individuals who can maximise their potential and contribute to society in a positive way.

“We are happy to contribute to the welfare and well-being of our chosen charities,” said MCM Master Robert Pick.

He said the recent charity fundraising events by MCM included the Royal Johor versus MCM polo tournament at the Royal Johor Polo Club.

Proceeds from the event were donated in aid of the MRSC, of which Raja Zarith Sofiah Sultan Idris Shah, the consort of the Johor Sultan, is the royal patron.

Pick said the entire school also took part in MCM Miles — an annual fundraising event where the target is to walk 11,028.8km, the distance between MCM and its mother school in England.

The “distance” has been successfully achieved.

For two years in a row, MCM has also arranged a charity art auction of paintings by students.

Supported by parents and friends of the school.

MCM, which commenced operations in August 2012 at its dedicated campus in Nusajaya, now has an enrolment of more than 600 students representing over 30 nationalities and 87 full-time teachers.

MCM, which caters to pupils aged between 4 and 18 years, follows the British curriculum from the Preparatory School upwards, offering the International General Certificate of Secondary Education qualification at 16 and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme at 18. By Rizalman Hammim
