Maqis seizes RM300,000 worth of pork at Pasir Gudang port

PASIR GUDANG: The Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (Maqis) seized 772 boxes of imported pork meat worth RM300,000 at the Pasir Gudang port, here, today.

Maqis Johor director Edie Putra Md Yusof said upon checking a shipping container on its arrival at the port, the enforcement officers noticed discrepancies on its import permit.

"Only one slaughterhouse was declared on the Maqis import permit, whereas three slaughterhouses were listed on the container and health certificates," he said, adding that this is a violation under Section 13 of the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011.

That led to the 18 tonnes of the meat, imported from Denmark, to be seized.

He added actions can be taken against those who attempted to falsifying import permits or furnished misleading certification or documents, and upon convictions may face a two-year imprisonment term or be fined up to RM50,000.
