Indonesian skipper charged for storing subsidised diesel

KLANG: An Indonesian skipper was charged at the Sessions Court here today with storing over 2,800 litres of subsidised diesel worth RM8,038.80 last month.

Nazrin Hasan, 64, claimed trial to illegally possessing controlled goods which is 2,871 litres of diesel kept in an unauthorised premise.

He was alleged with committing the offence at a tug boat premise named Dongwan at the Marine Police Headquarters pier in KS/11, Pulau Indah here at about 3pm on June 27.

The accused was charged under Section 20 (1) of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 for possessing controlled goods without licence and could be punished under Section 22 (1) of the same act which carries a maximum fine of RM100,000 or two years jail or both if convicted.

Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry prosecuting officer, K. Selvarajoo did not offer bail on grounds that the accuse might have the opportunity to leave the country.

"However, it is upon the court's discretion. If bail is allowed, the prosecution would submit for a RM70,000 bail with two sureties who are Malaysians and for the accused's passport to be surrendered to the court," he said.

Nazrin's counsel, Nurul Ikrimah Mohd Raya pleaded for a lower bail as her client has a wife and four children who are dependent on him.

Sessions Court judge Tasnim Abu Bakar then granted bail at RM20,000 with two Malaysian sureties and ordered for his passport to be surrendered to the court.

She also ordered for the accused to report to the nearest police station on Saturday of the first and third week until the case is resolved and fixed Aug 21 for mention.
