MH17: Do not spread contents, pictures of victims: MCMC

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has urged the public not to spread any content or picture of victims of Malaysia Airlines (MAS) Flight MH17 which crashed in Ukraine yesterday.

Its chairman, Datuk Mohamed Sharil Tarmizi said the public had also been asked not to share, post downloads or show sensitive content on internet social sites.

“We would like to remind the public to respect those who had died in the MH17 crash and their families.

“We all grieve for their families and friends and offer our condolences,” he said in the MCMC Facebook page today.

The MAS flight carrying 283 passengers and 15 crew was en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur when it crashed in Ukraine near the Russian border.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak early today said the Ukraine authorities believed the plane was shot down.

MH17 departed Amsterdam at 12.15pm (Amsterdam time) on Thursday and was due to arrive at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 6.10am (Malaysian time) on Friday.
