MCMC: Public advised not to share pictures and videos of schoolboy ramming incident

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has advised the public not to share pictures or videos of the Perak schoolboy ramming incident.

In a statement today, the MCMC stressed that it was important to respect the victim and his family, and at the same time, to show empathy.

"Sharing of the pictures or the video not only hurts the victim's family, but also goes against basic principles and ethics.

"The public is advised to delete or take down the content if they have uploaded or shared them. Additionally, all parties are also advised not to make any speculations as the case was still under investigation."

It added that any post containing photos or videos of the tragedy could be subject to legal action under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Muhammad Zaharif Affendi, 17, who was riding a motorcycle was killed after he was hit by the 44-year-old suspect driving a Perodua Ativa.

The suspect, Mohd Nazri Abdul Razak, was charged in the magistrate's court for the murder of the student.

He is a senior police officer with the rank of deputy superintendent. He is being charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code which is punishable with death or imprisonment for between 30 and 40 years, with not less than 12 strokes, if found guilty.
