Azraai keeps mum on future

SPECULATION is rife about coach Azraai Khor leaving T-Team.

The Kuala Terengganu club plunged to the Premier League after five seasons in the Super League, and Azraai is said to have accepted full responsibility for the failure and ready to move on.

But at the moment, the 62-year-old Kedah-born coach is keeping mum on his future.

When asked about it, Azraai said: “I have nothing to say.”

T-Team chief operating officer Syahrizan Mohd Zain said no decision had been made on the future of Azraai with the team.

“Azraai is still our head coach and Azlan (Johar) is his assistant for now, and it will stay that way until the top management decide otherwise.

“The only change we made after we lost the relegation battle was promoting our President’s Cup coach (Azhari Salim) to the first team to help prepare for the the Malaysia Cup playoff against Negri Sembilan,” he said.

Syahrizan said the appointment of Azhari was due Azraai and Azlan being absent during the critical time when T-Team had been relegated in the last game of the league after losing at home to Lions XII.

“We brought in Azhari because Azraai went AWOL (absent without leave) after the Lions XII match and Azlan was due to leave for Mecca and we had a few days before the playoff tie.

“It was a good thing that we managed to beat Negri Sembilan by a solitary goal otherwise it would have been a disaster to suffer relegation and fail to qualify for the Malaysia Cup.”

Syahrizan said the priority now is on the Malaysia Cup campaign as T-Team will need to overcome challenges from Selangor, Sime Darby and Police to make it through Group D.
