Sahur treat for patients, employees

ALOR STAR: SOME 700 patients, staff and medical assistants of Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital received a pleasant surprise when they were given food for pre-dawn meal (sahur) recently.

The pre-dawn meals were distributed by state Welfare, Women and Family Development and Agricultural and Agro-based Committee chairman Datuk Suraya Yaacob.

Suraya said the “Singgah Sahur” programme was aimed at engaging with Sultanah Bahiyah hospital staff including doctors, the management board and patients.

“We can’t forget the roles that these people have been playing in saving lives and attending to sick patients,” said Suraya.

“While others are having pre-dawn meals with their family, the nurses and doctors here have to sacrifice their time to attend to their patients,” she said after distributing the food.

Mahadi Abas, 54, from Anak Bukit here said he had never expected anyone to distribute pre-dawn meals here.

“Thank you for the food and the programme is definitely a good example to follow, especially during the fasting month,” said Mahadi, who is being treated for asthma at the hospital.

Nur Wahyu Arshard, 10, from Sungai Tiang said she thanked Sultanah Bahiyah hospital staff and Suraya for their contribution.

Present were Environment, Chinese Community Affairs, Health and Unity Committee chairman Datuk Dr Leong Yong Kong and the hospital’s Emergency and Trauma department chief Dr Fatahul Laham Mohamad.
