GOLDEN Screen Cinemas Sdn Bhd (GSC), Malaysia’s leading film exhibitor and distributor, will continue its expansion plan with the setting up of four new cinemas by year-end, says GSC chief executive officer Koh Mei Lee.
She said the four cinemas will be located in GSC Klang Parade, GSC Quill City Mall Kuala Lumpur, GSC Ipoh Parade and another flagship cinema, GSC Nu Sentral.
GSC had already signed-up for GSC IOI City Mall in Putrajaya, GSC Aman Central Alor Star and GSC Bintulu Times Square, said Koh at the opening of a 10-screen GSC Palm Mall, here, on Thursday.
GSC now operates 242 digital screens in 28 locations in Malaysia and 260 digital screens in 32 locations across Malaysia and Vietnam, through a joint-venture partnership with Galaxy Studio, which operates 18 screens in four locations in Ho Chi Minh City.

On the RM28 million GSC Palm Mall, she said the new cinema will be equipped with all digital halls — one THX-certified hall and two digital 3D halls.
“It is with great pride that GSC, as the leading cinema exhibitor, will present to the movie audience, the largest cinema (in terms of seating capacity) and the first THX-certified hall in Negri Sembilan,” she added.
THX is a high-fidelity audio/visual reproduction standard for movie theaters, screening rooms, home theaters, computer speakers, gaming consoles and car audio systems.
She said a THX-certified hall is built from the ground up, taking every aspect of the entertainment experience into consideration, often times installing additional materials and equipment to create an environment that will totally immerse you in the story.
“Every THX certified hall is designed to recreate the acoustics, ambience, background noise projection and viewing characteristics of the movie studio.
“THX hall enables customers to experience the on-screen action and the subtle detail of the movie’s sound effects, score and dialogue exactly as what the filmmaker intended. All this is to ensure that cinema-goers can enjoy the ultimate experience,” she added. Bernama
