SHOOTING: Nur Suryani Mohamed Taibi wins Malaysia's fifth medal

GLASGOW: Nur Suryani Mohamed Taibi won Malaysia's fifth medal of the Commonwealth Games when she clinched the 10m air rifle bronze at the Barry Buddon Range in Dundee today.

Nur Suryani stepped up after 2010 gold medallist Nur Ayuni Farhana Abdul Halim, who caused a stir after being forced to withdraw from the Glasgow Games, failed to make the final.

Nur Ayuni, whose participation had been in doubt following her luggage going missing, could only manage a 13th place finish in qualifying but Nur Suryani proved she was just as capable with a sterling show.

Nur Suryani, 31, was the seventh best qualifier with 411.7 points but she was of a different breed in the final.

She survived the elimination shoot-outs in the final and only fell when the field was down to three as she missed out on the final on a .2 difference with 184.4.

Gold and silver were won by India's Apurvi Chandela and Ayonika Paul respectively.

In the men's 10m air pistol, Eddy Chew missed out on the bronze when he finished fourth with a score of 154.0, having been eliminated after the top four shoot-off.

Another Malaysian, Johnathan Wong also made the final but he was eliminated after the first stage of the shoot-off.

The gold was won by Australia's Daniel Repacholi with India's Prakash Nanjappa and England's Michale Gault taking silver and bronze respectively.
