Selangor police issues double amount of summons in this Hari Raya

SHAH ALAM: Selangor police have issued double the amount of traffic summons this Hari Raya compared to last year.

In an effort to reduce road traffic accidents, the state's police force has been stepping up its action on traffic offenders.

Selangor police chief Datuk Abdul Samah Mat said only 10 per cent of about 14,000 police officers had been granted leave for Hari Raya.

"The rest are performing their duties and are particularly focusing on Ops Selamat 5 from July 21 to Aug 4.

"We have issued 51 per cent more summons compared to Ops Selamat 3 last year, with most of the offences being overtaking on double lines.

"Some impatient road users even overtake from the left, such action could lead to accidents," he said after attending a small scale Hari Raya celebration for Selangor police at the Selangor police headquarters, here, today.

In advising the public to drive carefully and be more patient, Abdul Samah also stressed that the police had to take tough action on road users who flout traffics rules in order to reduce the number of accidents.

He added that the force had also been working hard to combat house burglaries.

"The number of house break-ins has reduced this year compared to last year," he said.
