2 men jump off flyover to flee from cops

PETALING JAYA: An Indonesian man fractured his leg, hand and spine after jumping from a flyover at the New Pantai Expressway (NPE) here while fleeing from police yesterday.

The incident occurred about 1pm at Km13 of the NPE, after a high-speed motorcycle chase, which led to the man and his accomplice fleeing on foot before being cornered by police.

A source told the New Sunday Times that the chase started from Jalan Gasing, when Motorcycle Patrol Unit policemen spotted the two behaving suspiciously on a motorcycle.

“When the police team approached the men, they sped off towards Jalan Klang Lama before going into the NPE.

“The high-speed chase continued until the suspects stopped at Km10, where they abandoned the motorcycle and ran towards Bandar Sunway,” said the source.

Both of them climbed over the flyover’s wall and jumped. The injured suspect fell beside a drain. His accomplice, whose fall was broken by a tree, escaped.

Police took the injured suspect into custody, and called for an ambulance, which rushed him to University Malaya Medical Centre.
