KUANTAN: Six civil servants were among 13 people arrested by the state Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in the first half of this year for allegedly receiving bribes and attempting to offer bribe.
Pahang MACC acting director Senior Assistant Commissioner Zainul Darus said the 13 individuals aged between 20 and 50 years old faced a total of 16 charges.
"The court has delivered its verdict in seven cases while the remaining nine cases were pending trial. We receive numerous reports but do not proceed in some cases due to lack of evidence," he told reporters at the MACC Aidilfitri open house in Indera Mahkota here yesterday.
Zainul said all 13 individuals faced charges under Section 16A and Section 17A of the MACC Act 2009, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine of RM10,000 or five times the amount of bribe involved.
He said MACC was always prepared to work closely with the public and receive their feedback to improve its services to weed out corruption in the country.
"We will continue to hold anti-corruption campaigns throughout the state to raise awareness on the negative effects of corruption and ways to eradicate the menace," he said.
