MH17: Process of bringing home bodies runs smoothly

SEPANG: It is still too early to determine whether special religious rites for Buddhist and Taoist victims of the MH17 tragedy could be performed at its crash site near Grabovo, Ukraine as investigators were still in the process of identifying victims.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong however said the matter was not an issue as the priority was to bring the victims home.

"It is still premature to say anything about this as there are still bodies that have yet to be identified, processed for investigations, and released by the Dutch authorities," he told reporters after arriving with some 30 relatives of the victims, in Kuala Lumpur International Airport, here, this morning.

Wee said the effort to repatriate the 20 remains of victims was running smoothly.

He said most relatives were satisfied with the efforts made by the government and Malaysia Airlines to bring their loved ones home and accord them proper burial rites.
