Kuala Kubu Baharu nomination process proceeds smoothly

KUALA LUMPUR: The nomination process for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election went smoothly this morning.

Selangor deputy police chief Datuk S. Sasikala Devi said the situation at Hulu Selangor Multipurpose Hall and Sport Complex was calm, despite the large number of supporters who gathered outside.

"The process went on smoothly without any untoward incident. There were about 1,310 supporters from three political parties at the nomination centre, and 284 policemen were stationed in and around it to ensure safety and security," she said in a statement today.

Kuala Kubu Baharu is seeing a four-cornered fight between Pakatan Harapan (PH), Perikatan Nasional (PN), Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM) and an independent candidate.

The state seat will be contested by PN's Khairul Azhari Saut, PH's Pang Sock Tao, Hafizah Zainudin of PRM and independent candidate Nyau Ke Xin.

Sasikala reminded candidates, supporters and leaders of political parties involved in the by-election to comply with all the rules and regulations during the campaigning period up until the polling day on May 11.

The parties will campaign for 14 days, from today until May 10 until 11.59pm.

The by-election is held following the demise of its assemblyman, Lee Kee Hiong, 58, on March 21 due to cancer.

Last August, Lee won the seat with a 4,119-vote majority, defeating three other candidates from PN, PRM and Muda.
