Royalty detractors are 'bad virus'

ARAU: Perlis Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man described those who had supported the royal institution but now rejected it as "dangerous virus" who could disrupt social harmony.

He said there were those who had used the royalty for their own interests but now opposed it when they were challenged.

"This group has no identity because they do not support the royal institution whereas the British colonialists respected and accepted it," he said.

"The Malays should show a good example and defend their rights as pillars of unity," Azlan said in his speech at the closing ceremony of the Seminar on the Royal Institution II, 2014, held at Universiti Malaysia Perlis in Pauh Putra near here yesterday.

Azlan said the constitutional monarchy system was embedded in Article 181 of the Federal Constitution.

He said awareness of the royal institution among the people should be increased as there were many who did not understand its role and relationship with the ruling government. Bernama
