PM Najib urges Selangor folk to think rationally regarding MB crisis

DENGKIL: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has urged the people in Selangor to be reasonable and think rationally in light of the current political crisis in the state.

The prime minister said the Selangor people must gauge what would be good for them and the state.

"Rational reasoning must be made to save Selangor. If it is based on hidden agendas, the ones that will suffer or lose out are the people of Selangor themselves," he warned.

He said this at a gathering of about 10,000 people who had turned up for the state-level Hari Raya celebration held at SJK (C) Dengkil tonight.

Najib, who is also Barisan Nasional chairman, questioned the reason to replace a healthy elected leader with the spouse of a certain leader.

He said this in an obvious reference to the Selangor menteri besar crisis in which Pakatan wants to replace current menteri besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim with Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

He said should BN do the same, it would be branded as practising nepotism.

When commenting on what was happening in Selangor now, the prime minister described it as a blatant "naked nepotism" practice.

He said Selangor's politics was thrown into chaos, starting from the ‘Kajang move’ and now PKR is pushing its president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to take over the state leadership by ousting the current Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim and stripping his PKR membership after he refused to step down.

From BN’s perspective, Najib assured the people in Selangor that the coalition would always put the people's welfare above everything.

"Different political ideologies should never be the reason to disregard the people's wellbeing."

The prime minister also expressed his gratitude to Khalid for signing the agreement to build the Langat 2 water treatment plant.

Najib said the people of Selangor now had realised what the federal government had said was true; as without Langat 2 there was no guarantee of uninterrupted water supply.

"The Langat 2 project is to ensure continuous water supply for the sake of the people in Selangor and the Federal Territories (Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya).

"Water supply is the basic need for investors too for them to continue investing in Selangor," Najib added.

On the two aviation tragedies involving flights MH17 and MH370, the prime minister said such incidents had managed to unite the people despite their differences in faiths, races and political ideologies.

"The one-minute of silence observed last Friday during the National Day of Mourning has shown that Malaysians can come together as one (to honour and respect those who perished in the MH17 tragedy).

"We are united in grief. This is a unique situation where we can forget our differences," he said, adding that as united citizens, it would allow them to face any form of challenges ahead.

Also present at the event were Selangor Umno liaison chief, Datuk Seri Noh Omar and the Barisan Nasional state representatives who were treated with sumptuous spread of food ranging from satay to rendang.

Malaysia lost 43 of its citizens when the MH17 jet was downed in eastern Ukraine, killing all 298 passengers and crew on July 17.
