Car burnt on Penang 2nd bridge, driver escapes unhurt

GEORGE TOWN: A motorist escaped fiery death when her Perodua Alza burst into flames on Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Bridge this morning.

The 33-year-old motorist managed to rush out from her car in the 7.50am incident.

Checks showed the island-bound motorist hit the road divider before the car caught fire. Fortunately, other users of the 24-km long bridge were not affected by the incident.

A Sungai Bakap Fire and Rescue fire station spokesman said two fire engines from Sungai Bakap and Bayan Baru stations rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call at 7.56am.

“We took about five minutes to control the fire.

“The woman was sent to Seberang Jaya Hospital by an ambulance for outpatient treatment,” he said.
