Warriors test for Dragons

MALAYSIA Dragons will attempt to consolidate second place in the Asean Basketball League when they face Indonesia Warriors in Jakarta today in the first of two meetings this weekend.

The Dragons (5-2) are second only to unbeaten Bangkok City (6-0) but can move closer to the top if they can claim their second road win of the season before entertaining the Warriors (2-6) at the Maba Stadium on Sunday.

However, coach Ariel Vanguardia is wary of the threat posed by 2012 ABL champions Warriors, who have added to their roster after a poor start.

“The Warriors are much improved and looking more confident after a close match against Bangkok City (61-53),” said Vanguardia in a team release.

“I strongly believe that all teams can beat any other teams in the league. No one is invincible. Each game will be a challenge and I don’t want to quantify our chances.

“Our goal is to play consistent basketball and continue to improve as a team.

“The upcoming matches will be a crucial stretch for us. September is going to be tough with all the road games.”

Dragons have lost Kwaan Yoong Jing indefinitely following a road accident and Vanguardia will turn to Kuek Tian Yuan and John Ng to make up for his absence while welcoming Loh Shee Fai back from injury. By Devinder Singh
