Hadi: We differ from PKR, DAP

KUALA LUMPUR: PAS yesterday drew a clear line between the Islamist party, and PKR and DAP, raising further questions on its future with the loose opposition coalition.

Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, a key figure in the Selangor menteri besar row plaguing the Pakatan pact, said the party was not “the same as PKR and DAP”.

“We are on the side of righteousness and we uphold the true teachings of Islam.

“Don’t assume we are the same, that is wrong,” he said after launching  the “Nadwah Pemerkasaan Duat” programme at the party headquarters in Taman Melewar here yesterday.

Hadi also told the crowd of about 1,000 people that the party needed to be sincere in all tasks, including collecting funds.

“Advocators of Islam, or preachers, should never deceive others in carrying out their tasks, more so in collecting donations. Donations are collected in the name of Islam, not for their benefit.”

The funds should be collected with the aim of spreading the message of Islam, he said, and not be an end in itself.

At the same event, Pas Syura Council information chief Datuk Dr Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali at-Takiri echoed Hadi’s stance that the three Pakatan parties advocated different values.

“What makes us stand out from DAP and PKR is that we are aiming to be in power in the name of Islam. Our aim is for the state (Selangor) and country to be run in the Islamic way.”

Khairuddin said the concept of justice in Islam was not similar to the one advocated by other parties.

“Pas is Pas, our struggle has always been for Islam.

“That is why we reject secularism and even democracy, in a way, because democracy is only a temporary tool in gaining leadership, it is not the goal.

“DAP and PKR run systems unlike ours. Pas is for Islamic leadership and power.”
