Matrade targets RM166m from China expo

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia External Trade Development Corp (Matrade) is targeting a conservative RM166.15 million from Malaysia’s participation in the upcoming 11th China-Asean Expo 2014 (Caexpo 2014).

“We hope to see those figures driven by the services and education sectors. Traditionally, it has always been driven by products, such as those from the food and beverage industry,” said Matrade deputy chief executive officer, Datuk Dzulkifli Mahmud.

Matrade will be facilitating the participation of 131 exhibitors, comprising 126 companies, two state
agencies and five government agencies at Caexpo 2014, which will be
held in Nanning from September 16 to September 19.

Malaysian products and services will be promoted through six clusters, which are food and beverage, health and wellness, lifestyle, franchise, services and government agencies. Services that will be promoted comprise healthcare, education, port and logistics, and engineering and waste water treatment.

The Malaysian Pavilion at Hall 5 of the Nanning International Convention and Exhibition Centre will have 147 booths.

On the drop in the number of exhibitors from 138 last year, Dzulkifli said requests were received from 170 companies but it was unable to accommodate all of them due to space constraints.
