Curfew extended from Sept 4 to Sept 19 in Esszone

KOTA KINABALU: The 7pm to 5am curfew hour will be extended for another two weeks starting tomorrow.

Sabah police commissioner Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said extension was needed as security is still threatened in the Eastern Sabah Safety Zone (Esszone).

"We have received information that there are attempts to infiltrate the state waters and carry out abduction, and also attempt to threaten the safety of fishermen.

"The curfew also need to be extended to curb smuggling of firearms, drugs, and oil," he said in a press conference.

The curfew at sea, covering an area of about 194,932 square kilometres within the Esszone, began on July 19.

It was extended twice and the third phase of curfew ended on Sept 2.
